How does one pace oneself when running?

I timed my laps today; I get a lot slower and slower with each one. This was always the case for me, even when I was a kid.

Am I not breathing right or something?

  1. Try to run the same pace constantly. If your time increases per lap, then start slower.

  2. My recommendation would be to get some kinda of GPS, or pedometer that will tell you what your pace is.  I use a garmin 301 and I love it.  I have been using it about 2 years now and if I run with out it I know exactly how fast I am going based on how I feel.  Its nice to be able to see how fast you are going at any given moment and apply that to how you are feeling at the exact second.

  3. try a tape with a consistant beat.................

do it till it is internalized.........

  4. Breathe at a steady pace and run at a steady pace at a speed not to fast or slow. You will use all your energy if you go full speed.

  5. It just takes a while to build the kind of endurance to where you start at a certain pace and get faster until the end. Most racers work for this kind of endurance, but it takes a lot of training. I also notice that some days I slow down, and that's usually because it is a hot day, I haven't had enough water, or I just plain haven't gotten enough rest. All kinds of things could be a factor. One of the more common reasons could be that you are not well hydrated.

  6. make sure you are pushing yourself a bit but not overdoign it. your at the ideal speed when you cannot talk in a full conversation but aren't completely out of breath!!!
