How about two? I see that AL08 has formed east of Florida and maybe heading west towards the Gulf. If it were me I would go north towards Little Rock AR and stay for awhile.

  1. First and foremost GET OUT!!!!  I was long gone about 3 days before Katrina hit.  Make sure you have your cars filled up, grab all important papers like insurance policies marriage and birth certificates social security card and put them in a ziplock bag, then stuff that bad in the glove box of your car.  Fill your trunk with water and non perishable food. Make sure you have an ATM card, and carry some cash in small bills. Tie down anything in your yard that could become a projectile in 70mph winds, close the storm shutters or cover windows with plywood. Move all furniture to the middle of the room and move all electronics off the floor.  Then grab your dog, cat, sister, mother, child, brother etc. and GO!

  2. If you can afford to go somewhere out of the storms path, I would. Evacuating sucks, but after seeing what the people of New Orleans went through three years ago with Katrina I wouldn't want to be there if another significant storm hits.

    Good luck!

  3. that's how i prepare.

but people who stay in place need food, clean  water, medicines,

    etc.

  4. that sounds like a great idea, especially given how well the New Orleans city government operates.

  5. I would go on a little vacation North and wait for it to pass, remembering to try to keep most valuable possessions upstairs in your house before you leave.

  6. I have to disagree with that one person who suggested hiding in a cellar under your house. That's okay for a tornado, but definately NOT for a hurricane. Hurricanes can bring about flooding tidal waves and surges so why would anyone want to be caught below ground during one?

Anyways, to prepare... first don't panic. Just think of all the imporant things you need to do and have in order to be all right. If at all possible, plan to evacuate. Fill your car up with gas early before gas prices go up. Take everything you think you'll need in case you will have to be gone for a long period time, like money, extra clothes,  blankets, medicene, important documents,...etc.

If you can't evacuate, still fill up your car with gas. Stock up on food, perferably canned goods, water, batteries, flash lights, and if you can, buy a portable battery operated tv/radio so you can check in with the weather. Board up windows and secure your furniture. Oh yeah, you might want to fill up a bathtub with water just incase the water goes out. That's what I always do during a storm.

    Be safe!

  7. lock all doors, all windows, find a place like the cellar, hide there with the door locked until it goes away

    preferably below your house
