Question:

How does one prepare for basic training?

I have decided to join the Navy. Not a decision made lightly, but with much confidence and great faith in God. I need to change some of my habits and prepare myself for the real work ahead. I intend to start training by myself, and I have researched what PT tests I will have to pass. I'm thinking of joining a gym for strength training, running everyday until my stamina has increased... Possibly martial arts training to acquire physical and mental discipline? I only made my final decision this evening after much prayer... Yet to begin my work. These are my ideas, and I was hoping that maybe someone out there in cyberspace could offer some insight as to what more I may need. Thanks for reading! Any advice is more than appreciated!

  1. First thing is first you may want to join the Air Force instead, friend. Let me tell you why..quality of life. Navy is cramped space liveing and stuck on boats for unbearable amounts of time. With that said what I did to prepare was just run and run as much as you can because it is mostly about endurance in basic. Thanks for joining us!

  2. I really would not worry very much! It isn't like you are going to be a Special Forces or anything.  Everyone passes Navy basic, except the wackos!

  3. I know the first Army PT is 2 miles in under 16 minutes, 42 push ups, and 52 sit ups. Navy will probably be a bit lighter though.

  4. Get yourself used to waking up early and doing things like showering and eating fast. Exercise every day, especially if you are not in shape. Practice marching and learn commands early. Study rank insignia  and know the differences between officers and non-officers. Start addressing people you engage daily as sir and ma'am. Whatever you do, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A JOB UNTIL YOU GO TO A NAVY BASE AND SPEND A DAY WITH SOMEONE WHO DOES THAT JOB. DO NOT LET THEM BULLY YOU INTO A JOB THAT YOU DON'T REALLY WANT. I AM TELLING YOU THIS FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!!!

  5. well, here is the navy

    5% physical training

90% folding clothes the right way

    and 100% teamwork

the workouts arent that hard, just be able to run five miles and youll be find, the most situps youll have to do is 250 and the most pushups 100, but thats only on rare occasion. make sure you pay more attention to looking perfect, like sometimes they take a tweezer and if they find a speck they yell at you, i hope i helped.

  6. Pull you pants, down turn your head and cough.

    You're ready!
