I purchased an additional memory card for my Sony/VAIO Desktop Computer and need to install it myself. And I need to know how to go about grounding myself and the computer so that I do not damage the motherboard, or blow myself up...P.S. I'm on oxygen, so I could go "Kaboom!" if I cause a spark. Please someone..."Help !"me out

  1. Find an area of the house that is not carpet, like linoleum, wood, or concrete.  Install it on a table also made of some non-electric material like wood as well.  Also make sure the computer is powered down and unplugged from the wall, just for added safety.  You should be fine.

  2. The "correct" way is to open the side of the computer case, attach a grounding strap to your wrist and connect the other end to something that is metal and in contact with your case.  Usually a s***w.

I have had excellent luck by having everything next to me, opening the case, touching a non painted part of the case and then without moving feet ( avoid creating static electricity) install the memory.
