  1. Register for DMA's Mail Preference Service (MPS)

You can register for MPS two ways:

    1. Fill out the online form with all required information. There is a $1 fee, payable by credit card, which verifies your registration and helps to protect our system from fraud. DMA uses secure payment transaction processing to protect your credit card information. Registering online is the fastest way to see results.

    OR

    2. Fill out the mail-in registration form with all required information. Print the form and mail it with a $1 check or money order, payable to the Direct Marketing Association, to the address on the form. Processing by mail takes longer than online registration.

You can also opt-out of an individual company's mailing list and opt-out of pre-screened credit offers.

  2. every time u get it -- open it, tear it up and send it back in the self addressed self stamped envelope -- might not stop it but is fun to know that it is costing them twice

  3. The post office just started a junk mail program. You have to go to post office and fill out a form stating you don't want junk mail delivered.Just a warning though. Sometimes rebate checks are sent via bulk [junk] mail. You won't receive them.

  4. In Australia, as it is delivered by kids on bikes and such, people just put stickers (which can be found at the post office and are also made by various environmental groups) on their letterbox and the deliverer knows not to put the junk mail in that letterbox. Junk mail for that house will still be produced though, so you aren't really stopping the production of that junk mail.

  5. heres a invintive way just put all the junl back in the prepaid envelope and send it back to them they will stop they are paying the postage it worked for me

  6. Here's a better way.  Anytime you get junk mail with a pre-paid envelope, put a note in it and send it back to them telling them to remove you from their junk mail list.  This costs them money, because they only pay the postage if it gets used.  And, by US law, they must take you off the list.

I printed up a bunch of cards and have them ready, so I don't mannually create one everytime.

My junk mail has decreased by 50% in the past 6 months.

  7. Move to the moon.

  8. Matt Damon has been crusading to stop junk mail.  He is a member of "GreenDimes", which stops 70% of junk mail for coming to your house.  The GreenDimes.com organization also plants a tree for every new member, and will continue to plant a tree for each member on a monthly basis.  There is a site for both American and Canadian citizens.

The downside?  It'll cost you a dime a day.
