How does one successfully spray and kill bees?

Question

I have some family friends that have a bee problem. The bees, from what I have been told, are making their home in a hole in the cement of the back patio at this property. How can my friend's mother successfully spray and kill the bees without getting stung? Will she have to call an exterminator? If so, how much do they usually cost?

if they are bees and not wasps i would call a professional because right now we are LOSING way too many bees to exterminate more

Smoke confuses the bees, if you smoke them they will not sting I have done it and I have stood in the middle of hundreds of bees without protection and without been stung. While you are smoking them you can spray them with wasp killing spray that shoots to about ten feet away. One precaution you can take if you don't have faith in this technic is to ware goggles because when bees and wasps sting they normally go for the eyes. (The weak point) Another thing that is hard to believe but is true is that even a wasp won't sting you is you are holding your breath, is like they can't detect that you are a live person. The best way to create a good cloud of smoke is to burn dry leaves in a metal container. If the bees are a lot you better get a couple of cans of wasp spray. The regular bees (not the killer bees) are normally peaceful because when they sting their guts go with the sting and they die. But wasps you have to be careful with because they don't die when they sting, so they won't think about it twice when they're going to sting. Still they won't attack you when you hold your breath and stay calm. What I do when I find a wasp nest is I get a paper bag and while holding my breath I bring the bag to the nest and pick the nest up by its stem with the nest inside the bag. Believe me this works!! This I learned from a cousin os mine. When he told me I didn't believe him but one day he showed me that it works and I became a believer. Or you could take Beenther's advice about the bee keeper, if you can find one.

If they are bees, you would call a beekeeper.  He will come and find the queen and move it to another home.  The colony will follow the queen.  He may pay you for the bees if he sells them.

If they are wasps, there are a number of products available through drugstores or home stores (like Home Depot).  Choose any one of the sprays.  Wait for the wasps to be inside in the evening and then spray liberally around and into the opening.
