    In your example, all you'd have to do is qualify, make the cut at the Open (I'm assuming you're referring to The US Open) and then accept your prize money....viola....you're now a professional!

    That'd be your easiest route to turning professional.

  2. There are qualifying rounds on the Monday before every professional tournament.

    You must have an established handicap index of one or less to be allowed to try to qualify.

    The number of spots at each tournament varies, but if you are a top finisher, you get to play in the tournament that week.

    There are several qualifying levels for the US Open.

    I'm sure you declare yourself a professional when you sign up for the qualifying tournament.
