  1. First take off the valve cap on the tire you are checking. If you don't know what that is, and I am not being nasty now...maybe you should go to your local tire shop, or even to your favorite repair shop, and politely ask someone there to show you how to use your gauge. If you DO know what the valve is, then you press the round opening on your gauge against the valve stem. Press firmly or you will hear air whooshing past the gauge! If you hear that, let it off, and retry until you see a reading on either the stick that pops out, or on a face or digital reading. Then compare that figure with whatever your door jamb sticker says the tires should be inflated to. Fill or release accordingly.

  2. it depends on the type you have, do you a digital or analog either way you remove the valve stem cap on the tire and put the gage on the valve stem it should give you a readout either digital or analog .. the pressure depends on the tire you have on the sidewall of the tire it tells you how much air the tire should have most cars about 30 to 40 psi keep in mind since the air inside the tire expands when hot readings may vary throught out the day you can also see how much air the tires should have on the vin sticker on the center pillar of the vehicle on drivers side.

  3. Find the desired number on the sticker inside the car (door frame or compartment between seats).

Inflate the tire at a gas station until the guage says that number.

  4. Never go by the indicated PSI on the side of the tire always go by the placard that can be found on your door jam.  Max Pressure means max pressure, not recommended pressure.  I am amazed at how many people inflate their tires by what the tire says, the placard in your vehicle takes many other factors into consideration...plus you'll have a smoother ride.  Tire gauges are pretty easy to use, all it tells you is the PSI you have in your tire and you "plug it in" through your valve stem.  It wont inflate your tires, it will only give you a reading and deflate if you choose.  Most places where you pump the air have a tire gauge attached to it so you can inflate them accordingly.  Keeping your tires inflated and your air filter clean is the best way to maintain that vehicle's best MPG's.  Hope this helps...

  5. Look on the sidewall of the tire. Pressure information is listed in raised letters near the rim. Remove the valve cap from the stem. Make sure the gauge is reset. Press the end with the little gasket which fits the stem. You sill see the plunger rise or the gauge needle move and then come to a stop. Lift off the gauge and read the indicator. Add or remove air as necessary. Reset the gauge and do it again. If both reading are the same, it is likely you held the gauge tight with no leaks. If the reading are different, do it again, as you might not have made a tight seal. You should check and adjust pressure once a month. Do it in the morning before driving the car. Driving flexes the sidewalls which works to heat the tire and raise the pressure because of the heating. If you release pressure because you checked pressure when the tires were warmer than usual, you will have underinflated tires most of the time which is where the 3-4% lost gas mileage Obama talks about comes from.

  6. Your owner manual will tell you the optimal tire pressure.  There is also the max air pressure for your tire embedded into the sidewall of your tire, just above the rim.

  7. The tire itself will have the maximum pressure written on it.  Also, if you open the driver's door, there is usually a plate written on the inside which says the "normal" operating pressure.  This assumes that you have factory tires though.

Just look at what it says on the tire for MAX PSI and inflate to a few pounds below that.
