Question:

How does one work between an artist and an art dealer?

I know a fantastic artist who has no motivation to take her paintings to dealers and see if she can get a display. So I've decided to use some of my connections to get her art in a gallery.

If I get her some sales, what is the appropriate percentage? What can I expect the art dealer with the gallery to take? How do you set a price? Any other tips?

Thanks.

  1. 50 50 in chicago  60 40 in new york you will have

find place that fit her theme ,her name is not known

prices is in the $100s known name ,prices in the

$1000s  you need to study art marketing that not way

to go,slow process , a professor would need to

judge her work they would find things that non

professional would not think of ,why don't you find a public place

display them ! she to get involed with other professionals

  2. Whatever you do get an understanding in writing before anything transpires. Then there aren't any hurt feelings. Figure galleries could charge up to 50% of selling price. If you are her agent, what do you need? 10%? 20%? 25% ?%

So if the artist wants $100, the gallery gets 50% (selling price will be $200) ,then you want 25%  of $100, the artist is going to end up with  $75.

    Good luck!
