How does oxidation of L-malate occur?

  1. well malate is converted to oxaloacetate in the Krebs Cycle by the use of malate dehydrogenase and the co-enzyme NAD+. The NAD+ is reduced while the malate is oxidized, The reduced NADH foes tot he electron transport Chain and is oxidized . The cytosol also contains a malate dehydrogenase that can oxidize malate to OAA. Malate can also be  oxidatively decaboxylated using malic enzyme ..which converts malate to pyruvate  by using the coenzyme NADP+ which is reduced to NADPH
