  1. race: I think it matters more before one enters college.  It's in subtle ways, like some teachers giving more attention to white students, or a black student being made fun of for getting good grades.  Once a student is in college, though, there might be some discrimination, eg, assuming that the student is an athlete, but there is very little overt discrimination.  And in job search, I would say that there is even less discrimination.  Many firms practice affirmative action, and if they are accused of discrimination in employment, they can stand to lose millions of dollars, so it is in their interest to hire qualified minority applicants.

economic status: biggest factor among these three.  Upper middle class students are brought up with the expectation that they will go to a good college, enter a profession, and become successful.  In order to achieve this, their parents spend tons of money to make their children as appealing to colleges as possible.  High socioeconomic status students have an advantage getting into good colleges because of legacy admits, while it's highly unlikely that a working class student's parents went to Harvard.  Also, when searching for a job, higher socioeconomic status students are more likely to have the advantage of family connections, which can prove extremely valuable in finding job openings.

political beliefs: very little.  Political beliefs change so much throughout one's lifetime that it makes little sense to hire or not hire someone based on that.  Plus, there are people of every political stripe in just about every career.  Political beliefs can affect which career one enters -- for example, an environmentalist would probably not want to work for an oil company -- but most jobs are not so politically sensitive.  Some jobs require that someone hold particular political beliefs -- jobs at thinktanks, ngos, certain churches, etc, but these are a small minority of potential jobs.
