  1. There can be variations of methods between employers and head hunters.  My experience with head hunters as they relate to an international semi conductor corporation is that prospective recruiters must apply to the employing corporation - let's say Cisco or IBM or similar in size - and the corporation maintains an approved recruiter list.  They only deal with those on the list.  Recruiters find highly qualified applicants - for top jobs - and the recruiter does all the screening and verifying - and the recruiter submits a final study to the large corporation.  The packet can be quite large and very comprehensive.  The recruiter is paid a fee for those who are hired and retained.  Since it's essentially a contractual agreement between recruiter and corporation, contracts can be different.  Payment schedules may vary.  There may not be just one answer to your question.

  2. Basically, employers contact them so they dont have to advertise and go hunting. You put your name and experience forward to them and they fit you into a job at the moments notice that suits you. You get paid direct by the employer every week. You get standard wages for that trade or professional job. You are a fill in or a temp for a few weeks or months and if you are good and you like what you are doing they mostly ask if you would like to stay and then they  put your money as you have been reliable. Employers need people on the day and they rely on agencies to have someone at a moments grace. The recruitment place gets probably just as much as you for an hour as they charge you out. But when you have done your time with them they set you free with the crowed you are in and thats why your money goes up. There are hundreds of jobs and if you are not happy move to the next one. Good luck
