  1. it diverts waste from the land fill... and helps to reduce the use of new materials.

  2. It doesn't to any significant extent.  It is simply one liberal cause paying homage to the king of all  liberal causes, global warming.

  3. The whole 'save the world' thing isn't just about global warming, its also about keeping the earth free from garbage and destroying the environment that we live in. Recycling is good!

  4. i don't believe in global warming i just think recycling is the right thing to do to keep the land fills from overfilling

  5. Trash to energy plants release a large amount of greenhouse gasses into the air; by recycling, this is avoided.  Also, the process of creating new glass, paper, etc. releases much more emissions into the air than the process of recycling does.

In some ways, recycling contributes to global warming because now two sets of large trucks have to do trash pickup for every trash route, thereby doubling the auto emissions caused by garbage collection.  But the primary advantage of recycling is that it conserves depletable resources, including the open space used up for landfills.  The good definitely outweighs the bad.

And anyone who answers this question politically should be ashamed of themselves, because it's not a politics question, it's an environment question.

  6. so landfills dont stuff up
