  1. running at a slower pace may reduce the impact on your joints but when you are running at a slower pace you are taking more steps than when you do at a faster pace so they may just be equal, well at least in my case.

When you sprint you usually do not have that much impact on your knees because must of the time you do not have a heel strike which is a phase of your foot strike where there is the most strain on your body because it all goes straight to the ankle then to the shins, then to the knee.

Jogging is pretty much the same thing as long distance in my opinion becasue although you may not have a heel strike in long distance or jogging, they both go on for a long period of time (1/2 or more) which puts more strain on your joints than when you are sprinting because you do it for a longer period of time, and each time you take another stride 4 times your weight is placed on your feet.

In all you can change your foot strike pattern to get less strain on your joints and get cushined shoes such as nike max air, asics nimbus gel, adidas a3 or adiprene, and others but there is always going to be some strain on your joints and that is why they made joint juice.

  2. Running is great for the bones and connective tissue.  Being a weight baring exercise it promotes incresed bone density and stronger connective tissue.  Most people run into problems when they dont listen to their bodies, overtrain or train while injured
