So I hear that running helps get rid of belly fat. Is this true? HOW does running get rid of belly fat...it doesn't seem like it would...

  1. You can not spot reduce. You lose fat all over your body, not just your stomach.

Crunches and exercise will help the muscle tone, but will not cause belly fat to go away.

You lose fat when you burn more calories than you eat.

Running 45 minutes per week is not going to do much for you.

Control your diet, exercise and you can lose weight, if you see belly fat you have fat all over your body.

  2. running helps tighten muscles.  Swimming is excellent too.

The belly sags from an enlarged intestine and flabby stomach muscles. Run and swim and crunches on off days.

    Good luck.

  3. Running helps get rid of fat all over your body. Running can help you begin to tone your stomach, Running uses a lot of core muscles (core muscles are from your chest to your knees, so you chest, abs, glutes, hamstrings, and quads.) Believe it or not. So when you run you abs are kept tight which helps tone them. The farther you run the more fat you will lose and the more toned your body will begin to get. That is why good distance runners are like stick thin.

If you want to help your belly along and your cross country season, start running some more. Eat a healthy diet, and do some ab workouts. Good luck with everything.

  4. n not possible to spot reduce fat in just one part of your body, like your belly. In order to lose belly fat you will need to lose the fat all over your body.

In short you may need to start:

    1) Eating healthier, this means:

    Eat smaller meals

    Eat more meals a day

    Don’t starve yourself

    Eat more vegetables and fruit

    Drinks more water

Less sugars and empty calories (less soft drinks, cakes, cookies)

Switch to whole wheat versions of your bread and pasta, brown rice instead of white rice

    2) Exercising:

Forget crunches, crunches work your ab muscles but they dont burn enough calories to lose belly fat, if you do hundreds of crunches daily you will have great abs but you wont see them under your belly fat.

Prefer full body exercises they burn the most calories and increase you metabolism for a few hours after your workout.

Get a training partner or a fitness trainer, a very worthwhile investment - of the money you save on junk food for example =)

Try also to reduce stress and get enough sleep. Both of these are related to weight gain and emotional eating.
