  1. Your race is only 2.5 miles, but if you only train to run that far there is a chance you'll be tired before you reach the end.  That's why you must build up endurance and stamina so you can run the full 2.5 miles without getting too tired.

  2. I know it sometimes stinks to run for 6 miles, especially when you only have to go 2.5, but it will help you tremendously. For one, it makes the 2.5 miles seem easier, so that you are able to push harder. Longer millage also increases your endurance, heart, which also helps in running.

  3. If you can get used to running 6 miles and get your body conditioned for that distance, then running 2.5 miles will seem like nothing to you. It would be very similar if you only train by running 2.5 miles, but then need to run only 1/2 mile. That 1/2 mile will seem like nothing to you.

  4. When you run 6miles it builds endurance and if you can complete 6miles without stoping then you'll have no problem completing 2.5 miles

  5. As you've seen by previous answers, after training with 6 miles, 2.5 is easier. Additionally, you feel bettrer while getting tired. Its weird but I know from experience. After running 2.5 miles at a fast pace, it affects your muscles more than your lungs. The reason peole hate running is the stress it puts on the lungs. After the lungs are in shape running is more fun becuase its is easier to perform with muscles than fighting to hold your breathe while you're about to pass out.
