How does salt affect the coloring of flowers?

So, there's 2 carnations and one of them is in a vase with water and blue food coloring. The other one was in a vase with water, blue food coloring, and salt. After 60 hours, the one with salt in it had less color than the other one. Why is that?

  2. salt bleaches.and in this case it washed away the color.
