  1. Scabs are actually fairly complex.  The outer surface should be hard and seal off the wound from contact with the air.

    Beneath the hard surface there is an increase in the white blood cells present in the wound.  They white cells stay on the spot until the wound is healed.

    The several steps of regenerating skin include more increased irrigation and the building cells tend to be more resistant to infection.
