I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder 1 but in the past year I am having delusions and auditory hallucinations.

How does schizoaffective disorder differ from bipolar disorder 1?

Also what is bipolar disorder WITH psychosis and how is it different from scizoaffective disorder?

I know bipolar is a lifelong thing and can only be stabilized, but what about scizoaffective disorder? Is that also a life long mental illness?

  1. i guess you can read the differance on google

i am more concerned to tell you that i have read of confirmed

cases, where they were symptom free for many years, which

i would consider well, which also means that some of these

    illnesses are not life long

read success stories on www.curezone.com - under bipolar

  2. Schizoaffective disorder is bipolar with schizophrenia.  While schizophrenia is a psychosis in itself, there are people who are just psychotic so they function a lot better than schizophrenics.  And yes, schizoaffective disorder is lifelong.

  3. scizoaffective disorder is basically schizophrenia and bipolar both in the one patient. it is a very hard thing- my son was diagnosed when he was 18-its been really hard for him.

  4. This is a good question.

Bipolar 1 without psychosis is a mood disorder without halucinations.

bipolar with psychosis includes visual and/or auditory halucinations.

Schizoaffective disorder involves symptoms of bipolar, but also includes symptoms of schizophrenia as well.

This means that the person will think about the world in a different way.  It is a very broad diagnosis, it literally means "split mind".  It basically means that the person is not coherent and compitent in their thinking. Most people with schizpaffective disorder cannot realize they are affected with the disorder, because the inability to fully realize the entirety of their conciousness is the nature of the disorder itself.

Both are life long illnesses that must be controlled.

I truly believe that a person must be evaluated by a competent and liscenced profesional.  I do not believe that any mental illness can be initially self diagnosed (though I have gotten to the point that I can differentiate bipolar mania from just anxiety or being excited).

    Good luck with your journey.

  5. bipolar is mood orrientated

scizoaffective is mood disorder with hallucinations

    good luck

  6. Schizoidal personalities are an interesting subject and without experience the average person would not know another person has this condition. There are hallucinations, voices, depression, and periods of mania, although I've only touched on a few symptoms there are other types of Schizophrenia. Unlike the all popular bi-polar and I have a bit of disagreement on this condition. Recently and since the American Psychiatric Association has installed.the definitions of Bi-polar there has been a surge of people with this condition which appears as ridiculous!
