  1. probably the only way that science has enhanced any of the martial arts is through steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. Mostly science has only verified what martial arts practitioners have known for many many years.

Actually a serious, honest and forth right answer has to be "Human Anatomy" also the study of physics in things such as leverage, force, speed, momentum, movement, gravity, weight, balance, subtraction, etc. etc. etc.  If you understand the Skeletal, Nervous, Muscular and Cardiovascular systems of the human body it is to your credit as a martial arts practitioner.  To understand what is healthiest and what is junk fuel for your own body as well, is in a sense, how science improves performance in Karate in one aspect.  Understanding that muscles need to be stretched in order to perform at a level of flexibility beyond most normal peoples' understanding of such vital things is sound science in its self.  A "Mainland Karate Punch" for example is so scientific that it can rip human skin with just one strike.  The two punching knuckles of the index and middle finger knuckles on each hand in a "Mainland Karate Punch" is founded on the science of the human skeletal system anatomy.  Understanding a heel kick compared to the balls of your toes kick in Karate and how they both "extend" your reach beyond that of a punch is its self science at work.  It you look closely you'll see science at work in every martial art on the planet.

There are a number of ways that it has.  In the area of training for instance there are now a number of good training tools and apparatus that can help enhance ones ability to perform that you did not have forty or fifty years ago.  So much more is known about performance and sports training that a martial artist can go into a well equipped gym and more effectively target certain muscle groups and muscles so that he can develop some of his skills to higher level physically.  With respect to the treatment of sports type injuries any athlete, not just martial artists, are treated more easily, rehabbed and then returned to their sport, usually with much less down time.  Diet and nutrition is another area where athletes, including martial artists, have benefited from advancements in science.  Advancements in this area have made it so that martial artists can better handle the rigors of training while still being able to cut weight but not muscle.  Aided by vitamins and supplements a martial artist can more easily reach peak physical condition and the ability to perform at the highest level that he is capable of at that time.

  5. physics and proper form (physics at work) are alot more powerful then sloppy moves. good rotation on a round kick does more damage
