I have relied on my ex for everything the last 6 years, and now that were going through a divorce, I need to get on my own. I am trying to find a job until the child support starts coming in, but until then, I hear I might be eligible for section 8. First of all, what is that, I live in Portland, OR if that helps, how does it work, and is it a safe place for me and my 2 kids to live? Where do I go to get that assistance?

  1. "Until the child support starts coming in?" How much do you think you are going to get? You will need a job forever after this, honey, unless you find another man that will take care of things.

Section 8 is housing provided by the government. You have to go to the welfare office and apply. Be forewarned though: some of these programs have waiting lists YEARS long and many of the units are in really bad areas.

  2. go to joplin housing autority and they can geet you all set up probly food stamps and meds too

  3. Your also going to need a job after the child support starts rolling in..lol..until? Call your local H.U.D. office. Housing and urban development. or..you could just keep the job and with the job and the child support do what most of us us do. Work for a living and pay your own way. That would be the proud way. Not the welfare way. Good luck with that.
