How does s*x work disrupt patriarchal power?

I took this People in Society class and the prof just told us to think about this question and i found it quite interesting.

  1. . 's*x work'? As in prostitution?

    "s*x' has been part of the human race for a lot of years, ah, like Forever!

    Men want it, and are willing to pay for it. And the women control it. Always. It's about as 'disruptive' as the weather.

    Men, patriarchs, only have 'power' because they are physically more powerful.

There is one theory that suggests that women who choose to be in the s*x trade are taking control of their bodies in a manner which stands in the face of the patriarchal notion that a woman should give over her body to a single man - her husband.  Or that men should otherwise be in control or in charge of a woman's body.  I don't think that is the case in most instances, however, where prostitution is legalized and regulated, such a notion has merit.
