  1. Socialization teaches individuals the dominant norms and values of society. Primary socialisation occurs in the HOME and secondary socialisation occurs in the education system.

By learning norms and values, one is also learning how to adaptt o society and inevitabley how to function.

to answer the question it is important it is important to study the theory of FUNCTIONALISM and the ideas of TALCOTT PARSONS

    hope dat helps :- )

  2. Socialisation is the process of teaching and learning norms and values. It is often divided into primary and secondary socialisation. Primary socialisation is during infancy and is carried out by those closest to the child: its parents and immediate relatives. Secondary socialisation is done by institutions such as schools and the media. The way I see it, primary socialisation teaches a child about roles and other social actors - teaches it about agency - and secondary socialisation teaches the child how to function within a structure.

  3. Only in a consensus approach could we say that it 'helps' an individual to function. We could perhaps say that socialization is the act/action of indoctrinating new members of a society, whether children or immigrants, to accept that societies values no matter how unfair or perverse.

Feminists certainly believe that the act of socialization merely reinforces the partiarchy and don't even get me started on the Marxists......

  4. Well, I think you know the answer.

That person adaps to the norms of the society to which it belongs.  This means that the group has a better chance of getting along harmoniously.  If there are too many "outsiders" operating in ways which are alien to that culture then there's a greater chance for conflict.

  5. Think it depends on the individual, if it is a baby or young child then they learn how to fit in and become a member of society, if it is an immigrant I believe that you can be trying to force a round peg in a square hole and they will never fully fit into the society that they are living

  6. It keeps you in touch with reality.

  7. Most people require some kind of interaction with other people in order to maintain their sanity. Socialization helps an individual to learn what kind of behaviour is acceptable in society, and also what the consequences are when you are rude or act unkindly to others. It allows us to form opinions of what kind of behaviour we want to exhibit in order to have healthy relationships with others.
