  1. all i can think is... it only widens awareness of people in charge that should be telling teens to avoid pregnancy? b/c for sure, financially wise... they are not ready ,and maybe emotionally and mentally wise as well.

  2. After a war or terrible event, if a country had lost a lot of people, teen pregnancy might be favored for a while, as part of repopulating a country.

that's all i can think of.

  3. I never thought it really did...

I mean, it creates more life, but people should be careful...

  4. Sorry thought I remebered all those views but dont - this is my take anyway.

The mothers have more energy for their children and tend to get more help from their parents who are still young so the child gets a variety of help - Older mothers amy ot have parents still living. -Also eggs are still fresh and pregnancy less complicated. It also stabilizes some teens by giving them personal responsibility.

Later the mothers are old enough to work again and more mature to pick up their lives.

So it helps stablilize family  networks -

In an interactionist sense we all have to look after society's children - It gives the 'isnt it awful' brigade a platform to 'tut' about and thus keeps politicians and the media in work promising to do something about it. s*x ed in schools adn free condoms.

At a personal level I was a teenage mother in the sixties and was very depressed - it gave me something to focus on when I was quite mad - I always had to pull myself together enough  for my children.

I think it is a way out for many young peopel who are living intolerable lives.

  5. because more generations quicker

  6. today the world has changed..and people really have been over looking your teens having babies, I think with the right training in schools at least we can teach the young men and women how to care for babies and the cost and parenting classes in schools most schools today have takenout DRIVERS ed they should REPLACE with parenting classes because so many kids are having babies, I have however seen allot of young mothers be ver good mothers, some even better than older women..its all about educating the young ones

  7. Teen pregnancy is one of the worst things that has hapenned to this society. People having babies at 13, 14, 15; it's disgusting. Half the time the guys run out on the girls too, because they're worthless cowards. This makes it so the mother (who isn't even mature enough to be a mother in contemporary American society) raises him in a disfunctional manner and on and on.

That's a very good subject. Very good question, too. :)

  8. Functionalist - Durkheim - society produces a moral mechanism in which behavior is defined as acceptable or unacceptable; unacceptable behavior is punished - and society grows more cohesive in the act of punishing unacceptable behavior; so, ironically, teen pregnancy unites society against the pregnant person/outcast

Conflict Theory - Weber - Charismatic leaders need an issue around which they can galvanize/rouse the public - teen pregnancy was that issue during the Reagan-Bush I era (1980s); also, teen pregnancy can be defined as a social problem - modern society creates bureaucracies to solve social problems; in the process, the bureaucracy becomes an irremovable iron cage that has an active interest in perpetuating the problem of teen pregnancy rather than solving it - because the problem employs people in the bureaucracy, and also makes them money by securing government funding

Interactionist - society comes up with a shared/symbolic meaning on what "teen pregnancy" is - this process of meaning making makes society more cohesive (while, at the same time, sometimes punishing the pregnant person); or, teen motherhood can be seen as a role that gives meaning to an individual teen's life

These are the ways that , ironically, society benefits from teen pregnancy

  9. They don't, because what is the chance of a teen that is pregnant graduating.  All that is really doing is perpetuating a cycle of poverty, and dependency on the government to support these teen mothers and their children.
