  1. Culture teaches a child what is and isn't valued. What traits are positive and which ones are less desirable. It is the assessment of these traits that affects self esteem.

  2. of course. SOCIETY and CULTURE control it 100%. The media is part of it. it tells us what to value.

  3. Well, some role models are positive, (Barack Obama, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Angelina Jolie-right now, not in the past.) and some are negative (Brittney Spears, Nicole Richie, The Olsen Twins.) It really depends on who you look up to and if you can realize that a lot of super thin, rich, and beautiful celebrities have lots of problems, and you should not follow them just because of their popularity.

  4. I think society lowers a child's self-esteem in so many ways. First, the school systems these days are so overwhelming for a child. 5 and 6 year olds are expected to sit through a class for sometimes 6 hours and there expectations are extraordinary. Another factor is pressure from parents. So many parents want their kids to be the best at everything and it can really stress a kid out.
