How does someone qualify for an extension of their Unemployment benefits?

My benefits are not over yet, but they will be in about a month or 2. I want to ask the department for an extension, but am curious of what the requirements for this are. If I qualify, how many more weeks will they pay me for?

Well, first congress has to approve the whole "extension" thing.  Which they haven't done, yet.

Federally you qualify for 13 weeks - some states have approved up to 20 weeks.  Just contact them and the state system should show your job search efforts.  Ask for an extension and they will advise on the next step.
