How does someone, such as Nadal, overthrow the Nomber 1 ranked player in the world and take the position as No 1? Do they win more games? More trophies? I really have no clue, but i'd really like to know.

  1. this can be done if you win more tournament..even participate in it too..by playing a competitive game, you'll earn point..thats why sometimes if you watch tennis on tv, at the end of the game they will show you the point that a particular player get on that game..if you win the tournament, let say the roger master that nadal had won he earn 300 points..i'm not sure either you understand or not..for more info you can visit the websites that they give you..sorry though

  2. Win tournments.

  3. the one who win more games in more important tourneys in a year wins. each matches you win gives you points. the points is varied depends on what level (qf/sf/final/win) and tourneys (atp masters series, tier II, grand slam, etc).

This link will tell you everything you need to know

  5. You need to gain more ranking points than the other guy in front of you by winning more big tournaments or going deep into the tournaments.

    Federer: http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/pl...

    Nadal: http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/pl...

  6. In each tournament you earn a certain number of points, depending on how far you get. Obviously the winner gets the most points then the finalist, then the players in the semi's and so on....

If Nadal has lost a tournament in the first round one year, and gets further in it the next year he will gain points. But if he won it one year and loses earlier the next year he would lose points. It doesn't matter how many games you have won in each match, just how many matches you have won by the end of the tournament.

He would have to get more points than Federer to take the number one position, and he will officially be the number one player by at least Sunday, because he just overtaken Federer in the point system.

Here is a link to the current points each player has: http://www.atptennis.com/1/en/home/

I hope that makes sense and I've answered your question =]
