I know its confusing. But If i want to go study in japan and i don't know japanese, how does it work? and do only the good colleges have programs in japan?

Also, If I am only supposed to stay there a year but after a year I want to stay all four years can I do that?

  1. Normally, you would go as a junior, so staying four years would be a problem, causing you to take 6 years to graduate.

There are several kinds of study abroad programs.  If you don't speak Japanese, you wouldn't go to one which had you attending a Japanese university for normal classes, because Japanese universities don't operate in English.  What is more likely is that you would take courses offered by an American university (not only the top universities offer such programs) or a private provider for American students in Japan.  These programs only offer a limited selection of classes, so you couldn't stay for four years (even a year would be difficult; most students today study abroad for a semester, not a full year).
