  1. well with a drivers license you can then get a home address and a phone number and it is a reliable way to track someone.

  2. for one thing, having the driver's license allows the cashier to compare the identity of the person, against what is on the check. The addresses may be different.

If the check does bounce, and it is a large amount.. then it can be turned over to the police for prosecution, if the customer fails to deal with it. Once they have it, it is a criminal issue, and the license # can be linked to issuing a warrant.  If they are pulled over, then the warrant for the check will show up.

It does not make it easier for the business to get the money, but is used if it goes to the next level.

  3. they can have them charged with illegally writing a bad cheque...straight to the cops to be found :)

  4. So that they can find them through the BMV.

  5. Just like a SS Number, can be reported to Telecheck or other agencies that can identify you.  Also prevents against fraud.

  6. It makes it much easier to locate the person to sue them and file criminal charges against them for fraud/theft by deception for writing a bad check.  In many states, if the person cannot be located immediately, their driver's license is suspended and they will be hauled to jail and face more charges when caught.

If they are in an accident while their license is suspended, they can be denied coverage under their policy and be personally liable and sued for all damages.

  7. It helps verify who the buyer is and on the off chance that the check is returned from the back due to insufficient funds. It helps to locate the individual in order to collect the money owed.

  8. It verifies who the person really is. Unless the person is a con artist scum, with a good fake ID. Otherwise, a drivers license can provide you with extremely valuable information. The new D.L.'s are

    "NATIONAL I.D." cards.....

Don't take checks...cash,money order, or get ******..lol..watch the money orders too..verify the money order by phone. Call  the currency exchange..

  9. They can trace the driver's license through the DMV and track down check bouncers and other deadbeats.
