I am , I don't know why, curious if the invention and emergence of the DVR has had any affect on TV ratings, do shows still get the credit for me watching a show if my DVR records it while it is off and I watch it later. And are advertisers any more hesitant to advertise on TV knowing that most people now with the popularityof DVRs just fast foward through commercials. I was just curious after reading an article about declining ratings almost universally, including many shows I watch weekly, but always on DVR, never live.

  1. IM not sure exactly, but I am with you, I NEVER watch live tv anymore, the invention of DVR is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I read somewhere that advertisers are still strong though

  2. DVRs are not counted by Nielsens, who do the TV ratings.  Even then, you have to specifically be a Nielsens Family to actually be counted at all.

Unfortunately, this also means the the Nielsens ratings are becoming further and further useless as a true measurement of who's actually watching what.
