They dont, isnt it obvious by the ridiculous amount of recalls on our food just within the last 2 years. They are supposed to, but in reality they could care less if thousands of people die, its actually benefits them if people die, have to control populations somehow, this is just one way.

Occasionally they visit food processing plants and make sure there are less than the allowed number of rat pellets and rodent hairs in the food.  The also culture for bacteria.
