  1. the table on the nascar.com page below shows how points are awarded for each race for 2008. first place receives 185 points, second receives 170, third receives 165, ... , 43rd receives 34 points.  five bonus points are also awarded for leading a lap and another five bonus points are awarded to the driver who leads the most laps. thus, first place generally receives 190 or 195 points (as that driver must lead at least one lap, and may lead the most). the least a driver in the race can receive is 34 for last place.
