How does the United States keep track of currency?

  1. Your assumption is wrong.  US money is backed by nothing but "the good faith and standing of the US Government".

    As far as tracking, that's what the serial numbers are on the bills.  Coins are counted by their rolls collected.  As each passes through the Federal Reserve branches, they are logged.  They have calculations on what's in circulation from that.


  2. Right now the feds are not keeping track...we are headed for the worst inflation, worst economy in decades.

We have not been on the gold (or any other) standard for quite some time.  Our money is backed, as the first responder said, solely by our Government's "good" word lol.  If our Government disbanded tomorrow, our bills would be worth the paper they are printed on.  And to answer your question, we don't keep track of our money.  We just keep printing more, and assuming the next generation will clean up the horrendous mess left behind by inflation.
