How does the VCR work with Direct TV when Direct TV channels have triple digits?

With time recording the VCR's are made for two digit numbers so how can a VCR operate with Direct TV under these circumstances if most of their channels are triple digit?

You connect DTV to your VCR through the A/V or digital inputs instead of coax. When you program your VCR, set the channel to A/V or AUX or its equivalent.
