How does the Verizon Air card get a Internet signal ? Is it through Satalites or Cell Phone Towers ?

  1. Cell phone towers! (As far as I know it does not go to sattelites at all, the towers are simply hooked into the internet themselves, probably using a T1 T3 or some other high speed connection)

    I work for Verizon Wireless, and the simple answer is that it does so using a radio signal from the same towers that give your phone reception! However these towers must have ugrades as it is a different signal, it is much faster. This is the 3G signal and goes between 600kbps and 1.4Mbps (kbps=kilobytes per second, and Mbps=megabytes per second, 1024kb=1mb). Speeds on the 3G network can burst up to 2.0Mbps! The aircard can also work in the enhanced service area (called EV-DO signal), which is not 3G, but runs at speeds on average around 400kbps to 700kbps.
