Do I make an appointment to take the SAT exam first and apply at the college while I wait for the day of the SAT exam?

  1. You generally take the SAT exam before you apply for the college, so you can submit your SAT scores. Colleges have early decision/early action, and those applications are typically due in November or December, and regular decision which are due in January. So based on your decision, you'll have to determine when to take the SAT. If you're doing early action/decision, you'd probably want to take it in October. If you're doing regular decision, the October, November and December SATs should be fine.

  2. Applications for college want your SAT scores so it's not really possible for you to apply first THEN take your SAT's. Typically, (at least this is the way it was done 5 years ago when I was applying) most high schoolers will take their SAT's in the spring half (semster/quarter whatever you have) of their junior year in high school. Then if they want to take the SAT's again (to get a better score) they take it again in the fall half of their senior year of high school. Most schools (at least the ones i applied to) will not start accepting applications until after the holidays. So you have plenty of time to start filling out the applications and getting your scores back (if my memory is correct it took like 4 weeks to get my scores)
