How does the behavior of chromosomes during meiosis mirror the behavior of the heritable traits described by Mendel? Specifically address the laws of segregation and independent assortment

  1. you have 23 pairs of chromosomes 46 total

    during meiosis the pairs split this is what Mendel was referring to when he meant the law of segregation...he didn't know it at the time

    he each gene has two different copies and during reproduction they separate

    during meiosis you can get any combination of chromosomes that each chromosome separates independently of each other

    Mendel got lucky and chose characteristics that weren't on the same chromosome
