  1. A simple single speed blender consists of a container to hold the contents and an impeller on the bottom end of a shaft that sticks up through a lid. The bottom portion contains the motor assembly and a pressure switch on it's shaft. You take off the top container, remove the lid (leave the impeller in at this time) and pore in the contents to be blended. Replace the lid and put the container assembly back on the base and press down on it. The blender will continue to work as long as you press the container down on the motor unit. Then remove the container, the lid and the impeller blade assembly (for cleaning) and just pore out the now blended contents. The larger versions are about the same except they have variable settings and can pulse and whip at several speeds. The impeller(s) (fancy ones have a selection for different uses) are propeller like curved blades that will cause a large area turbulence while blending. Some impellers are more for chopping than for blending.
