Question:

How does the cockpit of a Blue Angel open?

I am currently assembling a model of a blue angel and I think I might want it to be with the cockpit open. The instructions only show how to place the cockpit on closed, and all of the pictures I see online are of them in the air, so obviously it is closed.

I think it most likely slides forward, but I don't know how far forward it goes, and I'm not sure on that.

Thanks in advance.

  2. it opens like a car hood

  3. The Blue Angels have used several different aircraft types since they were organized during the Korean War.  All of these types had full canopies, which are composed of two sections.  The windshield forward of the pilot is attached to the fuselage in a fixed position.  The canopy divides just in front of the pilot, and the rear portion from there back slides to the rear or hinges upward.

I hope you can get your model to look the way you want it to, but you may need to consult an experienced model builder to find out how to cut your canopy into sections.

    Best of luck!

  4. The F/A-18 uses a 'clamshell' opening type,

hinged at the rear of the cockpit.

I'd be curious to know which kit you're

modifying. Most kits these days assume

you will model the aircraft with the canopy open

    to show off cockpit detail.

F8F, F9F and F-11's slid aft on rails.

    A-4 clamshell

Here's one more link to add to the other

    quality links above.

  5. Just look up what ever kind of plane it is on the internet. If its a current model then it would be the F/A-18 Hornet.

  6. i have been in a F-18 hornet and the cockpit opens by sliding back over the canopy behind it
