  1. the quick and easy answer is that as organisms go through life cycles they are basically created/born, reproduce other members of their species and die.  along the way they consume energy from other organisms - like the food chain - and produce waste that is used to supply energy for lower forms of life.  its all interrelated which is why it is referred to as a cycle.
