  1. This site:

    http://www.fws.gov/laws/laws_digest/esac...

gives a list of some (though maybe not all) the updates and what each one added/changed to the original Endangered Species Act of 1973.

  2. the list is constantly changing, some species that were once on there have come back do to restoration projects, for example, the bald eagle was once in serious trouble becouse of DDT (a pestacide we used that the eagles were effected by and made thier shells brittle so very few hatched) this brought them close to certain death, then DDT was baned and restoration projects began, thanks to those the eagle populations have been restored and they are no longer on the list, other species are being lost and are getting added to the list, for example the eastern diamond back was just put on the Threatened List, this is typically the first step to the endangerd list, once a species falls below a certain level (the level varries depending on the species since different species have different reproduction rates) they are considered threatened, hopefully conservation efforts began before this point, but quite often they do not begin untill the animal is considered threatened, if the efforts are succsessful the population will revive and be removed from the list, if the population continues to decline it will eventenally get on the endangerd list.

  3. The ESA was designed to protect animals at risk.  Interestingly environmental extremists have kept animals on the ESA long after they should be taken off and protected/controlled by the states as they see fit.  Brown bears and Wolves in the lower 48 are just two of the more sensational examples.  People participate more in recreational outdoor activities now more than any other time in history, yet when confronted by an Apex Predator, we are asked by extremists to let them be.
