The nervous system controls the endocrine system's production of hormones, most of which help maintain homeostasis.

Homeostasis is the maintenance of a constant internal environment and is controlled by nervous and hormonal control by the central nervous system. (The norm/set/point is the normal level )

Basically deviations in the internal environment from the set point are detected by thermo, chemo, or baroreceptors in various parts of the body.

This triggers electrical impulses to the control centre eg medulla oblongata for changes in CO2 levels in blood or hypothalamus for temperature.

The control centre sends out electrical impulses to muscles to contract or glands to releases hormones which will counteract the deviation and return the internal environment to the set point.
