I'm looking for inforamtion regarding the growth patterns of a tree when it is among many other trees versus the growth patterns when the tree has grown near a lake. Any answers are greatly appreciated.

  1. Trees do tend to grow toward the available light.

Trees packed together compete for height.

A tree with a 'lake side' would tend to spread

branches, and might even lean, in that direction.

If you're talking about growth rings, I'd suggest that

the 'lake' tree would have a more reliable water supply,

and thus show less variation for dry years.
