How does the ipod touch target your position ?

How does the iPod target your current location with the maps app? How does it if it apparently has no GPS thing in it? Thank in advance.

  1. the ipod touch uses wifi hotspots, cell towers and a companys called skyhook wirless to find your location


  2. If it does not have a GPS sensor, then chances it works using cell phone triangulation (using 1 to 3 cell phone towers to figure out where you are), i find it strange if this is the touch and not the iPhone though, as I don't think the touch can communicate with cell phone networks

  3. It doesn't! The iPhone 3G does (which isn't worth the doe), but the touch absolutely does not. Who told you it does?

  4. The first gen iPhone bounces signals off cell phone towers to locate you. It is astonishingly accurate. The iPhone 3G uses a GPS chip. I wasn't aware of the fact that the Touch could locate you on a map- perhaps you're mistaken?
