How does the laptop connect card work? (+10 points!)?

i got my laptop last november, and i got the wireless router thing n i can only use my laptop in my house.. i think its like 500 ft. away from the access point (wireless router box thing). my older cousin set up the wireless router for me cuz im only 14

but i want to get one of those cards that you stick into your laptop and you can get access anywhere, i dont know how that works n i really need to know! PLEASE HELP ME!!

and, how much are they??

can you buy it 4 a year or monthly or something??

If u have a wireless card slot on your computer usually on the side u just slide it in there.  I know of 2 places that carry pc cards its clear wire and verizon.  There are monthly plans and yearly plans but it depends on u and how much your on the web, u have to check it out and see what ones fit you...so good luck!!

Its pretty expensive.  It is just like a modem and its connected to the internet.  There are one's where you stick it into your laptop and you get better range.  If you want internet access anywhere, you need to join a plan with your internet service provider which is like $30 + a month.  And you are stuck in a contract.
