  1. Hello Jules,

What a wonderful question this is, and look now, you really mustn't beleive in what NASA has to say about the launch process having a negligable effect on the atmophere. They are going to tell you in a report everything the American government tells it to say, and rthey will use a lot of scientific bumf telling you about it all.

Simple physics will tell you more. test it for yourself, we all should now how to do it, take a lighter or even just a simple match, light it, now, stick it under an upsidedown glass jar, a candle is best for this experiment. Then watch how long the flame lasts, not too long you will soon agree. Ok, so now the flame has smothered, imagine you were in that glass jar too, how long would you be able to breathe the atmosphere in that jar, now that the flame is extinguished, There's no air in there to support your life, now think how many shuttles and other space shots there are in the US of A every year as well as other countries, and ask yourself, how much of our vital AIR is being burnt away by these invasions into our breathing supplies above the ground.

Simple Physical experiments show you the simple factual truth, now add to that, all the fumes out of our cars, trucks, industries, Oh Jules, and all the other etceteras too. This world is a great place to be free on, but Jules, they are killing us all slowly but very surely. hope this hleps you my friend....Tony M

  2. I'm sure Foxie gets her facts from the source. However, of course NASA would say that.

I am a firm believer that the launching of the shuttle and the fuel it uses plays a part in upsetting the atmosphere. What would make a person believe other wise?

Everything we do as humans, plays a part in global warming.

Yes, even war. All the bombings and shootings. It all plays a role in the destruction of our Earth.

For NASA to say otherwise...I say, hogwash.

  3. NASA has studied the effects of exhaust from the Space Shuttle's solid rocket motors on the ozone. In a 1990 report to Congress, NASA found that the chlorine released annually in the stratosphere (assuming launches of nine Shuttle missions and six Titan IVs -- which also have solid rocket motors -- per year) would be about 0.25 percent of the total amount of halocarbons released annually worldwide (0.725 kilotons by the Shuttle 300 kilotons from all sources).

The report concludes that Space Shuttle launches at the current rate pose no significant threat to the ozone layer and will have no lasting effect on the atmosphere. The exhaust plume from the Shuttle represents a trivial fraction of the atmosphere, and even if ozone destruction occurred within the initial plume, its global impact would be inconsequential.

Further, the corridor of exhaust gases spreads over a lateral extent of greater than 600 miles in a day, so no local "ozone hole" could occur above the launch site. Images taken by NASA's Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer at various points following Shuttle launches show no measurable ozone decrease

  4. I agree with Foxie besides if these people are right we may need a exit strategy so I say keep launching so we can explore to set up colonies so we can spread throughout the galaxy.

  5. negligible...

  6. Small events like this are insignificant.
