How does the liquid bleach dispenser work in washing machines?

Does it add the bleach to the load and water immediately? I always wondered how it works and where it goes after you pour the bleach in the "Liquid chlorine bleach" dispenser.

In my washer, the bleach goes into a reservoir until it is flushed out and diluted by the water used in the rinse cycle. The rinse cycle provides the bleaching action.

With my washer, it just runs into the outer drum so you're not pouring bleach directly on your clothes.

It will dispense it in the water so it is properly diluted and will reduce the chances of too much bleach getting on a spot of clothing and ruining it
