  1. Wait a second... Let's talk about GENDER.

So we'll go over women first because that is easy. Women are constantly being affected by the media such as television and magazines as far as what they should physically look like. The idea of large b*****s, small waists, and a "J-Lo" booty have somehow become a common idea of what a woman should look like. Not very many women actually look this way (naturally anyway), but most women would agree that a large chest and behind paired with a slim waist is the ideal body type for our society.

Men are also part of what GENDER means. Let's not forget about men. Men are socialized by the media to think that six pack abs, cut arms, and big pecs are what is s**y to a woman. When is the last time you saw a movie where a man took off his shirt and looked like your dad? Well, assuming your dad is not a professional body builder or swimsuit model... never. There's a growing pressure for men as well to look good and to conform to what is attractive because the same gender values that women go through are being passed to men.

It is more and more obvious in our society that we are beginning to value people not on their skills or personalities, but by their appearances. This is just one way that the media influences gender socialization in men and women.

  2. females are socialized by their families and the mass media they view and how people treat females after viewing the mass media.

So when the TV or news talk about women's bodies instead of their views, news and issues, especially for women who are CEOs, Congress members, and other important people, this socializes everyone to treat real females in this degrading manner. A woman's views at work are affected by the  men who interrupt her constantly when she is speaking, make fun of her attire or jewelry or otherwise degrade the atmosphere in the workplace.
