Do you get benefits? Do you have to go to boot camp? Do you get housing? When and how long are you gone?

  1. You join, go through boot camp and your MOS training and then return home. Amount of time depends on your school. You attend monthly (weekend) training sessions for which you get paid. I believe you need to be in active reserves for 6 years and then 2 years inactive (no weekends). You do get benefits (educational) for serving. You don't need housing since you will be home. You also take the chance of your unit being deployed.

  2. Yes, you'll get some benefits.  I don't know exactly what those are, but I do know this:  Yes, you have to go to boot camp.  Depending on the service you choose, it'll be between 6 and 14 weeks.  While there, you'll get free housing, food, medical, clothing and, of course, exercise.  You'll get a cycle to leave when you join up.  Air Force is the simplest boot camp, followed by Navy, then Army, then Marines.  I have no idea about the Coast Guard, sorry.  Good luck.
