  1. First of all, The Panama Canal is a lock Canal, so you should think that the Panama Canal looks like stairs. The vessels or ships that come from the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean, will pass through these locks which represent the steps of the stairs. Later, the boats will go through the Gatun lake which is very extended and then, they will descend through another serie of steps or locks.

    The whole process last around 8 hours.
